With a late flight into a glorious sunset in Palma Sunday would be our first day of walking in the Tramuntana mountains of Mallorca. This is a place we’ve visited before and the mountains are magnificent.
Sunday was a bright and blustery day in Soller signalling much stronger winds on the summits.
Early morning in Soller
A forty minute drive to Valdemossa the start of our walk up to Es Teix, and the market was in full swing.
Looking back down to Valdemossa
Not long before we encountered a few mountain goats
Minor summit overlooking Deia
Puig Major 4,475ft
Puig Major is the highest peak on the island and is off limits due to the military installattions. However it is possible to get to the secondary summit which is only slightly lower in height, which we have done on a previous trip. This is taken from the plateau below the summit of Es Teix.
Bay of Palma from Es Teix
Ian descending from the summit
It was touch and go whether we would actually get to the summit on the day as the wind was so strong.

Bay of Palma
We headed down to the Port of Valdemossa where the wind was whipping up spectacular waves.
On the drive back to Soller the sunshine and shadows were catching the hills.

Refreshments back in Port de Soller
Fantastic first day and a week to go!
